All in a muddle.

North side of the Till   Oils on canvas board   6 x 6 inches   SOLD

Jumbled grasses, shrubs and autumn berries.  The banks of the River Till are full of colour.

Studio Musings...

I have painted this scene before and found the photograph this week.
I thought I would pay another 'painting' visit.
The banks are mown now and wintery but soon the grass
will be growing with the local wild flowers.

Fitties and fun.

Sun at the Fitties   Oils on canvas board   6 x 6 inches

Sunshine makes the day.  The sand is warm on whippet's feet but he won't go in the water.

Studio Musings...

My childhood memories of a seaside playground.  The days when we rode our bikes all day and explored the coast and dunes.  A biscuit, an apple and bottle of squash for lunch.

Up the hills.

Dawn over Lavender   Oils on canvas board   8 x 12 inches

Lavender fields in the early morning light.

Studio Musings...

I like this vertical format for an uphill view.  It carries my eye up the fields to the light horizon.
All shades of blues, violet and pink in these lavender farms.

Mellow mood.

Sundown over the Bain Valley

Oils on gessoed 140 lb watercolour paper   7 x 11 inches

A mellow mood at the end of a warm day.
Getting towards the end of summer and nearly time for harvest.

Studio Musings...

Grasses and wild flowers mingle with the ripening corn near the edge of this field.
In the distance the hedgerows and grass fields create a tapestry of shapes.
Simple marks denote trees and shrubs.

I wanted to give an impression of mellow relaxation.

Run for cover.

Approaching Storm over Stallingborough Fields

Oils on gessoed 140lb watercolour paper  7 x 11 inches

Before the storm, a contrast of colours in sky and field.

Studio Musings...

Back to gessoed watercolour paper for this study...a lovely texture to sculp the oils into interesting shapes and swirls.   The paper is quite strong and will stand up to my scrubbing.

I like the colour harmony in this quite simple composition.
No need for lots of detail...a few brush strokes tell the story.

Generosity.

Shared Landscape  Oils on canvas board   4 x 4 inches

Nature sharing her colours.  An expressive study of sundown.
A tiny picture with a generous personality.

Studio Musings...

I am always enthralled with a sunset in any season but winter glows with colour.
Another 4 x 4 inch canvas board which is just right for a quick sketch.

Pop it in a frame or prop it on your mantel.  It won't get in your way.

On the level.

Lowland Pool   Oils on canvas board   6 x 6 inches

Mountain and moor.  Pools gather on the lowland ground.
Soft, gentle colours with an atmospheric sense of place.

Studio Musings...

A second sketch piece painted quickly at the end of my painting session.

These small sketches are useful for relaxing when times are a little tough.
