Just weather.

Interlude   Oils on stretched canvas   9 x 12 inches   £ 80   $ 120

A brief respite from the rain with a break in the clouds.

Studio Musings...

My studio is getting colder so I have to paint faster before my fingers are numb.
This can actually be useful as there will be less chance of tightening up.

A painting of nowhere in particular...purely a study of atmosphere.

Tuesday 29 November 2016

Tapestry of autumn.

Across the Wolds   Oils on canvas board  5 x 7 inches   £ 55    75

Colour in the countryside.
The Wolds before the weather changes.

Studio Musings...

Hedgerows, copses, rolling hills and colour.
Just an exercise of making marks, and a landscape emerges on the canvas.

No need for detail, the marks and shapes tell the story.
The wonder of abstraction.

Monday 28 November 2016

Grey.

Grey River Day   Oils on stretched canvas   9 x 12 inches  £ 80   $ 120

Subtle shades of mud on a quiet day.

Studio Musings...

There are many shades of grey and I like mixing them.
Blue ones, violet, brown, creamy grey...all are magical.

Grey is a perfect foil for other brighter colours.
It will 'go' with almost anything.  Choose warm or cool as needed.

I think it is an intuitive process really...if it 'looks' right then it is.
If it feels right go with the flow.  It is the painter's choice...
It isn't a disaster if it goes wrong.
 It's only paint.

Rabbit territory.

Summer Fields   Oils on canvas board   £ 50   $ 65

Hedgerows and fields where rabbits play.

Studio musings...

Mark making.  That is it.  I make marks each day to tease
out a composition which might resemble something I have experienced.

Where I live I am immersed in landscape daily in all weathers and
see the effects of rain, snow, sun and wind on the fields around me.

I sometimes take photographs but mostly I just observe
and absorb the place, living the occasion. That is enough.

I make pictures which can remind me of something I have once seen.
Not an exact replica...that is not my desire.  I do not want perfection.

I could never reach perfection as I paint...a perfect painting of a landscape would be too difficult for me to achieve.  I would be wiping off, scraping down, beginning again for ever.

The joy and spontaneity would be gone.  Perfection would become a dictator and I a slave.
No...I will continue to make marks and have the thrill of standing back to view my work realising that my loose brush stroke has suddenly become the landscape I wanted.

Bits and pieces.

River Shore   Oils on canvas board   5 x 7 inches   £ 55   $ 75

Ebb tide exposes a variety of interesting shapes and forms along the river's edge.

Studio Musings...

A tonal exercise using marks to depict the various
shapes and forms captured in the mud.

Mud has interesting textures and colours soon to be hidden by incoming water.

Friday 25 November 2016

Sandy places.

Sun on Sand   Oils on canvas board  5 x 7 inches   £ 55  $ 70

A bright interlude on the Lincolnshire coast.

Studio musings...

Attracted to the light I captured the sun on this sandbank.
Soon to be covered by the incoming tide.

Thursday 24 November 2016

Weather.

November Field   Oils on canvas board   5 x 7 inches   £ 55   $ 70

Across a bleak November field.  Bare branched trees on the horizon.

Studio Musings...

I am late today!   If you have noticed...please accept my apologies.

I am hoping to be back on track tomorrow.

Wednesday 23 November 2016

Moody.

Atmosphere of Light   Oils on canvas board  5 x 7 inches   £ 60   $ 75

Ethereal light from the moon on the shore.
Scrubby shrubline and sand dune.

Studio Musings...

Another tonal study of the shore.
I am loving the greys and muted browns together.
A touch of violet blue for atmosphere.

Tuesday 22 November 2016

On the way.

Night Coming   Oils on canvas board  5 x 7 inches  £ 60   $ 75

Night descending over the lake.

Studio Musings...

Subdued colour and tone for this study.
There is just a little colour on the water.

Monday 21 November 2016

Glorious mud.

Muddy Shore   Oils on canvas board   5 x 7 inches  £ 60   $ 75

Layers of colourful mud.  A tonal exercise.

Studio Musings...

Mud, glorious mud.  Full of colour and subtlety.
This was a lovely exercise in values.

Sunday 20 November 2016

Early morning.

Mist   Oils on canvas board   5 x 7 inches   £ 60   $ 75

Shrouding the coastline...the mist is clearing slowly.

Studio Musings...

Time has been at a premium this week and my easel work was brief.
Today was different.  I wrapped up well...including a hat and braved my cold studio.

I got into the flow quickly and soon had some little studies to bring inside to dry.
All are from memories.  All gestural and free from excessive detail.

I will post them over the next few days.

Saturday 19 November 2016

Widescreen.

Transience   Oils on stretched canvas   8 x 20 inches   £ 240   $ 300

(In a black float frame)

East Coast Marsh...ebb tide.

Studio Musings...

The wide aspect of this seascape gives a panoramic view.
I like the nature of the tide and how the shore is transformed by ebb and flow.

The light also changes with weather patterns.  These sandbanks are warmed by the sun.

Another aspect of the shore...

Marsh and Mudflats  Oils on canvas board  10 x 12 inches.

Marks, colour and shapes make this view of the beach.
Abstracted and gestural the aim is a suggestion of a place.

(Available on Artfinder.com).

Friday 18 November 2016

Fresh day.

New Dawn   Oils on canvas board   10 x 12 inches   £140   $ 175

A fresh look at the world.

Studio Musings...

I was in a hurry this morning getting ready for sitting in at
Sam Scorer Gallery for the Lincolnshire Artists' Society Winter Show.

A very quick session at my easel produced two studies.
The second one was going well at the start...then it went downhill.

I had fiddled too much so taking a rag I rubbed most of the paint away.

Then I picked up the remaining paint from the palette and boldly swept it across the board.  Somehow my painting came to life with the bright yellow streak on the horizon.
It reminds me of a new day.  Available on Daily Paintworks.com

Another time, another place...

This painting is available on Artfinder.com

                                Dusk   Oils on canvas board  10 x 12 inches  £ 160

The day relaxes at sundown giving an ethereal view.
An expressive abstraction of the landscape.

A little reminder...

Anne Wood Paintings Blogspot is now my main website page.

(My old website annewoodpaintings.com has closed).

I shall continue to keep in touch with you daily here
with phtographs and studio musings.

End of day.

Estuary at Sundown   Oils on card   6 x 10 inches  £ 60   $ 80

Quiet time along the Estuary as the sun goes down.
A promise of a bright day tomorrow.

Studio Musings...

I thought this small study would be appropriate to post
as a reminder about some endings and beginnings.

I refer to my decision regarding the closure of my previous website.
I love painting and precious time at my easel has to be juggled with managing the daily tasks of photographing, editing, uploading and maintaining my online presence.

I have two online art gallery pages (Daily Paintworks and Artfinder)
and this Daily Blog to manage so there is plenty to keep me busy in the 'office'.

Something has had to stand aside so I have time to keep painting each day.
Blogging and posting my work will continue and the images
here will be the ones featured and available on Daily Paintworks.com

Something new is my gallery/shop on Artfinder.com
The paintings there will also be available to buy and I shall
add new work to the collection each week.

To view these just click on the link underneath my photo on the right of this page.

Happy browsing.

Painting of the day..

Dramatic times.

Out West   Oils on board   22 x 41 cms   £ 160   $ 200

A show-stopping view of sundown.

Studio Musings...

I found this painting in my cupboard and cannot remember if I have posted it before.
Here goes for a repeat performance.

Tuesday 15 November 2016

Breezy.

Windswept Coast   Oils on board   13 x 31 cms  £ 120   $ 150

A breezy day for a walk along the coast.

Studio Musings...

A long narrow piece of board made an ideal support for this piece.
Although the size means a custom frame needs to be made I like the shape.

Monday 14 November 2016

Snuggling.

Pumpkin Garden   Acrylic on board  10 x 10 inches framed  £ 130  $ 160

A visit to a walled garden at Gunby Hall in Lincolnshire.
These pumpkins were snuggling together in the sunshine.

In a dark brown hand-painted wood frame.

Studio Musings...

I was running late today and realised I hadn't posted something for today's blog.
The photographs are not good owing to the light levels this morning so I apologise for that.

This little painting sits in my home.  It was created in 2010.
At that time I was using acrylics so this is the only piece I have left in my collection.

I like it for the loose, impressionistic style and it reminds me of my painting journey.

Sunday 13 November 2016

Seasons.

November Mist   Oils on canvas board   10 x 12 inches  £ 160   $ 195

The promise of a bright day after the mist has cleared.

Studio Musings...

Another tonal study.  However, whilst painting this scene I began to 'tighten up'.
It was not where I wanted to be so I took a rag and rubbed the oils around.

Suddenly the image changed and I regained the atmosphere I needed.
My landscape became mysterious.  I love a little intrigue.

Saturday 12 November 2016

High ridge.

High Peak 2   Oils on canvas board   7 x 5 inches   £ 60   $ 75

A long climb up to look at the view.

Studio Musings...

The view from the top is a good one and worth the work to get there.

Friday 11 November 2016

Sky high.

High Peak 1   Oils on canvas board  7 x 5 inches  £ 60   $ 75

A sandy trail up the hillside.  A walk in high places.

Studio Musings...

I had two canvas boards left on the shelf.
Still enthused by my tonal study week I came inland
to create a memory of my walking holiday.

Thursday 10 November 2016

Marshland.

Coastal Tones 6   Oils on canvas board  7 x 5 inches  £ 60  $75

A tapestry of marsh and mud.

Studio Musings...

The final tonal study featuring the coast.
It has been a useful week concentrating on values to create a composition.

Wednesday 9 November 2016

Peaches and cream.

Coastal Tones 5   Oils on canvas board  7 x 5 inches  £ 60   $ 75

A misty view of the coast.

Studio Musings...

Mark making.  Tonal shifts add depth and interest to my studies.
I like the peach and cream in the sky areas reflected in the watery sand
.

Tuesday 8 November 2016

Sunlight.

Coastal Tones 4  Oils on canvas board  7 x 5 inches  £ 60  $ 75

Sandbanks and sun.

Studio Musings...

An abstracted way of painting is an adventure in the mind.
When I work the oils around the board the shapes formed remind me of what I have seen.

Imaginative? Maybe...but what really matters is bringing the painting to life.
