Patterns.

Warm Shores   Oils on board  4 x 4 inches  SOLD

Patterns of colour and tone work together in this little study.

Studio Musings...

There is a time when a painter can be 'on a roll' and work seems to leap off the easel.
I must add this does not happen every day!

I have learned to let the paintings speak to me
and if the mood is right I will go with the flow.
All sense of time vanishes.

Cold nights.

Ice Pool    Oils on board  6 x 6 inches   SOLD

Frozen water meadows.  Little traces of warmth in the sky.

Available on Daily Paintworks.

Studio Musings...

This week I was interested in working on a series of tonal studies in grey.

Grey is a wonderful colour to mix and use.
Other colours 'pop' out, highlighted by the soft subtle shades of grey.

Winter Track   Oils on canvas board   6 x 6 inches  £ 65

The water meadows in winter.
A track leads the way across the fields.

Low water.

Water's Edge   Oils on stretched canvas  9 x 12 inches   £ 90   $ 120

The tide is out...morning light arrives on the East coast.

Studio Musings...

A change of support from firm canvas board to stretched canvas.
I like to change sizes and supports to keep a variety of paintings in my studio.

The composition is a simple one although there are lots of marks.
The 'pyramid' shape leads the eye into the scene and
my high horizon gives a sense of space and distance.

Brush marks depict the froth at the edge of standing pools reflecting morning light.
Just marks and memories.  My way.

Lasting impressions.

Studio Musings...

I return to my lakeside studies.
Painted loosely with emphasis on impression and light.

Suddenly.

Encounter   Oils on canvas board   5 x 7 inches   £ 55   $ 70

Rare moments and magical encounters.

Studio Musings...

I love pushing boundaries in my work.
This tonal study needed something to bring it to life.

I decided a change of colour on the horizon would add some
drama and give the scene a pale ethereal appearance.

Keeping the dark purple blues in the foreground for the shore balances the composition.

Darkness.

Night   Oils on canvas board  5 x 7 inches   £ 55    $ 70

Ethereal coastline.

Studio Musings...

Testing tones and colours.
A few flourishes of creamy pink add interest in the foreground.
