Studio Musings...

This is one of my favourites.
As you may have noticed I love painting seascapes.

The East Coast inspires me to capture something about the atmosphere.

  Re-working in progress

Two little 5 x 5 inch studies on the easel.

Not yet finished but fun to do.

Far away.

Out there   Oils on board  10 x 12 inches  SOLD

Far out to the horizon, the tide is out there.

(Sold on DailyPaintworks.com)

Studio Musings...

Painted on Saturday afternoon...this picture is about dry and
will be packing its bag for a flight to USA.

It began life as a landscape but evolved into a favourite subject...
Saltwater marshes on the East Coast.

Rubbing back and pushing the oils about made this piece.

Grounded.

Earthly   Oils on gessoed 140lb paper on board  £ 55   $ 70

Layers of earth.
Colour beneath the surface.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

Paintings need not always be about bright colour.
The landscape is made of many hues.

Texture can also play a part in suggesting a scene.
Rubbing back and scraping make marks to depict the worked land.

Eternally.

I really enjoy painting on watercolour paper.
Using oils and finishing with a light coat of varnish,
the work may be framed without glass.
A stiff backing board helps to support the picture.

Playtime.

Where rabbits run   Oils on canvas board  5 x 7 inches  £ 46  $ 60

Hedgerows make wonderful playgrounds for rabbits.
Holes mark their underground warrens.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

The first of some smaller pieces.
It was overpainted on a warm under-painting.

Scrubbed on colour makes a hedgerow...loose and gestural.

New studies drying on the easel.

Underpaintings using a rub-out technique...

The work on the left is demonstrating a rub-out on a white gessoed board.
Using Burnt Sienna and Phthalo Blue I scrubbed the hues onto the surface.

A rag wrapped around my finger shows how some
of the paint removed creates a possible land/seascape.

The work may evolve into something
totally different but for now it gives me ideas.

The smaller piece on the right has soft violet over orange for a sky.
Dark green using a mix of Phthalo Blue, Winsor Yellow and Burnt Sienna
has been scrubbed in to suggest trees and shrubs.

Most of my work is started like this.
However, it may finish quite differently.

I do like variety.
