Many colours.

All is calm   Oils on canvas board  10 x 12 inches  £ 195  $ 250

A time for reflection.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

This was an exciting piece to paint.
The title is in contrast to the bold colours in this vibrant work.
Adding the lime green across the foreground gave the
impression of light on the weed and marsh.

I loved placing the green/purple and red/orange hues together.
A bold sweep of my brush..to lay it on and leave it.

This prevents the painting from being overworked.

Seeking.

Explore  Oils on canvas board  10 x 12 inches   £ 190  $ 250

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

There are days when nothing seems right... in painting.

This was the first image after many scrape overs and finally abandoned.
When the piece was dry I had a re-think about where I wanted it to go.

The image above 'Explore' is finally finished.
Everything comes to she who waits...for inspiration!

Brief encounter.

Suddenly   Oils on gessoed 140lb paper  18 x 9 cm  £ 24   $ 30

A fleeting glimpse of light falling on land and water.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

A second journey along the path of the 'crop'.

I have already made a square painting from the original rectangle.
This part was left and has now become a little work in its own right.

Nothing ventured...nothing gained.
I have gained a picture and it also can be a bookmark.

Memories.

Late August   Oils on gessoed 140lb paper  17 x 8 cm   £ 24   $ 30

Harvest in Lincolnshire.
A tiny painting or a bookmark.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

One of my favourite things is making a picture out of almost nothing.

When using gessoed watercolour it is easy to crop a portion and use for something else.
Originally a landscape format, I decided to make a square.

I have sold the square now but this little part was begging for a job of its own.
Well...now it has one.

Last thing.

Dusk   Oils on canvas board  10 x 12 inches  £ 200   $ 250

Ethereal and mysterious...the saltmarsh before dark.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

This week I have been re-visiting some of my store paintings.
After they have been out of sight for some time it is quite a surprise.

A few of them have found their way onto a pile of possible re-works and this was one.

Now it is finished I can't even remember what it looked like before!

Motion.

Flow   Oils on board  18 x 14 inches

Moving water and light over the shore at ebb tide.

(On hold for forthcoming exhibition).

Studio Musings...

I have submitted four paintings for a show in May.
I like to select works which have a common theme and similar colours.

Here are the other three...

Fresh

Ebb Tide

Technicolour.

Mud   Oils on canvas board  7 x 5 inches  £ 50   $ 70

Mud is colourful...the light picks up hues of purple, blue and gold.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

I am fascinated by mud and all its beautiful hues.
Sculpting the oils with my brush I make marks
to resemble the ebb tide and creek.

Here we are.

Paddling through puddles and pools another day of fun.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com

Studio Musings...

Sometimes it is fun working a painting a bit more.
I had finished this one yesterday but wanted to add a little more sparkle.

Tomorrow I shall re-visit some larger pieces.

Tidal flow.

Mud Flats and Marsh   Oils on canvas board  10 x 12 inches  £ 195  $ 250

A sense of atmosphere in this view of the salt marsh.
Light sparkles on the standing pools.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com

Studio Musings...

A return to abstracted pieces this week.
I love moving oils around, sculpting the paint with my brush.

A second one... 'For Jo'

This was painted in honour of her birthday yesterday.

Drying on an easel.

A 'keeper' for now,  NFS

 Night...

Imagine   Oils on board  8 x 4 inches  £ 50   $ 70

A warm evening by the lake.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

The long view...

A narrow piece of board was ideal for this tall study.
Cropped from a previous painting.

Some of the purples and blues with a hint of red hues
on the tree line were already on the board.

I played around with oils, sculpting with my brush to
give an impression of twilight on a lake.

The turquiose reflections give a punch to the scene.

Further Musings...

September, East Coast   Oils on canvas board  12 x 10 inches

A memory of my birthday and a day out to the coast.

Exposed.

Found   Oils on canvas board  5 x 7 inches  £ 50  $ 70

Seek and you will find.
Ebb tide exposes the hidden pools and creeks.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

I had a decision to make today...
Gardening or easel.

The outcome was easy.  Easel.
Gardening can wait until tomorrow.

Whippet by my side, I enjoyed several hours moving oils around.
Now there are five paintings drying on my table.

In my Artfinder shop...

Early, East Coast   Oils on canvas board  12 x 10 inches  £180

Early mist is clearing as the East Coast wakes for the day.

Poolside.

Ebb Pools  Oils on gessoed 140lb paper  4 x 4 inches  £ 45  $ 60

East Coast Marsh pools at ebb tide.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

This is an example of returning to a painting to work a little more.
Many of my small pieces are finished in one session and this originally was one of these.

Until...I decided to add more oils. .
It is quite heavily textured now and I like the finished painting.

A mix of brush and a little knifework made these marks.

A new painting for my Artfinder gallery.

Doxy Pool  Oils on board  4 x 6 inches

Up high on the Roaches in the Peak District I found this freshwater pool.
Legend says a mermaid lives here.

(Available from Artfinder.com/anne-wood)

A framing suggestion.

Fragments.

Fell Pool   Acrylic on board  5 x 5 inches £ 40   $ 60

Discoveries on a walking holiday.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

I am quite amused by this painting.
It was made some time ago in a landscape format.

Twice it has been cropped for a new look.
This must be the final cut or nothing will remain!

I like the effect of just shapes and colour..

Fresh start.

Bright new day   Oils on gessoed 140lb paper  6 x 6 inches   £ 45   $ 60

Hazy start to the day with sun sparkling through.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

Oils on paper.
It seems an unlikely mix.
However, when the dimpled 140lb watercolour paper
is twice gessoed on both sides it becomes quite robust.

The surface is ideal for special effects like scraping back to reveal little
textured patches of colour retained in the dimples.  A painter's dream.

There is no need to frame behind glass either as a coat of varnish protects
the oils in the usual way.  This way there are no glass reflections to spoil the view.

Last minute look.

Late Gaze   Oils on gessoed 140lb watercolour paper  5 x 5 inches  £ 45  $ 60

Mesmerising...colours and reflections.
The sun on sea and shore.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

Another little piece which has had a small change.
It was a larger painting that seemed to be saying too much.

Cropping to a 5 x 5 inch size has brought it into focus.
Playing around with composition and size is part of the fun.

A very Happy Easter to you all.

Weather.

Wet Day   Oils on gessoed 140lb paper 4 x 6 inches  £ 45  $ 60

The fields near my home on a wet day.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

Painting with a large brush and using a brisk scrubbing
motion I made marks resembling trees and ground.

The path to the river is at the side of our garden and one gestural mark
leads the eye towards the horizon where there is a small plantation of trees.

Gessoed watercolour paper is wonderful for showing
the dimples of colour where I scraped the paint back.

No need for much detail...I think these marks give enough.

Patchwork.

Sundown   Oils on board  15 x 8.5 inches  £ 140   $ 180

Evening comes to the hills and a patchwork of colour appears.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

This is the second vertical format painting in my studio.
Yesterday I cropped a similar piece but this
one is interesting enough to remain as it began.

As I worked I became intrigued by the way clouds gathering for evening
appeared to be 'sewn' to the land looking like a huge tapestry.

A wonderful world of imagination.

Coming home.

Tracking   Oils on board   11 x 9 inches   £ 90  $ 120

Evening is coming to the hills and the clouds are like tracks in the sky.

(Available from DailyPaintworks.com
or by email in UK)

Studio Musings...

I have had this painting for a little while in my studio.  It was 15 inches tall.
Yesterday I decided to crop 2 inches off the top and 2 off the bottom.

It is interesting how different it looks.
I think the tall vertical format was just a little too much.

I like it now.
