Night comes.

Yorkshire Bay  Oils on canvas board  7 x 5 inches  £ 50

Late evening on the Yorkshire coast.

Studio Musings...

This week I painted a flurry of little studies which seemed to come from nowhere.
As a result my paintbox was getting a bit 'squeezed out'.

I was pleased to receive some new supplies...

These will keep me occupied for a while.
I love having new tubes around...all clean and fresh.

Soon to look like these.

Coastal colour.

Norfolk marshes   Oils on canvas board  6 x 6 inches  £ 50

A magical moment on the marshes.

Studio Musings...

Another colourful tonal study. It was fun to paint.
I worked quickly and energetically to make gestural marks.

Nature reserve.

Whisby lake   Oils on canvas board  5 x 7 inches  £ 50

Walking with my whippet in Whisby Nature Park.
It was a lovely sunny morning by the lakes.

Studio Musings...

Light and shade...this is a little tonal study.
Summer greens are quite challenging.

I like to place warm and cool greens together with a hint of violet.
The violet hue is echoed in sky and water.

Heady stuff.

Lavender fields   Oils on canvas board  6 x 6 inches  £ 50

Colour and perfume in the lavender fields of Norfolk.

Studio Musings...

This is a change from my recent dark and moody work.
I like the warm and cool hues of purple/mauve together.

Summer walking.

Lincolnshire Meadows  Oils on canvas board  5 x 7 inches  £ 50

A warm day in the summer fields.
Just right for a gentle stroll.

Studio Musings...

Marks scrubbed onto the board made this picture.
Resembling the landscape but abstracted for a relaxed feeling.

It is my favourite way to work.
Fine details are not in my studio.

Summer sun.

Lincolnshire Fields   Oils on canvas board  7 x 5 inches

Glorious sunshine on lush fields.
Time for a walk.

Studio Musings...

Loosely painted, this study has an energetic feeling.
I love painting with a big flat brush with worn bits sticking out.

Scrubbing marks and flicks up or across the surface make
suggestions of grass and corn crops.

Watery.

Floodlands  Oils on board  26 x 34 cm.  £ 200

Flooded fields and riverside.
Reed beds are home to wildlife.

Studio Musings...

This landscape was made in stages.
An underpainting set the scene with a
rub-out technique to make paler marks.

When dry, a composition was teased out and left aside.
Several weeks later I decided to finish the piece with transparent glazes.

I like the ethereal feeling and a sense of watery patches.

Below is a framing suggestion.
