Monochrome.

A few months ago I took a photograph of a bouquet of flowers sent to me.  It was a very colourful flower arrangement and I thought of painting it like that.  Out of interest I changed the photo to black and white.  

I began the painting using ultramarine blue and burnt sienna to make a dark colour but as it evolved I added a little permanent rose and raw sienna.  Titanium white helped to adjust the values.   I abstracted the shapes as I didn't want to render the picture too closely to the photo.  

I like the faded, sepia type image and it has inspired me to try changing a few more photos to see how they would make a painting.
